Vicente Fernández - México Lindo y Querido

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! While it is not celebrated in as big a style in Mexico as it is in the U.S. it is still a fun holiday.

For this post I went looking for the date it was originally released and instead got a history lesson. Turns out that this song that I have always attributed to Vicente Fernández, aka Chente, is a cover. The original was composed by Jesus “Chucho Monge” in 1921 and sung by Jorge Negrete. Looking around the internet for answers, it seems like Chente didn't put out his version until 2006. Super interesting! I also just learned that there will be a bio-series about Chente's life released on Netflix sometime in 2022. Exciting!!

The part of the song that most moves me is when he sings that if he dies away from his beautiful and loved Mexico to make sure he is brought back to be buried in the dirt of his homeland. And instructs o lie to the officials and tell them that he is just sleeping and bring him back.

Being a kid of immigrants I know that my parents feel just this way about their homeland. No matter how thankful they are for the U.S. and all its given, at the end it is in their homeland where they want to be in the end.

This song is good for day drinking tequila and partying with relatives. Viva Mexico!

Enjoy!

If you liked this then give the song's originator Jorge Negrete, and another awesome singer of ranchero music Pedro Infante a try.
