Before Danny Elfman became famous for his bare chested 2022 Coachella performance, he was famous for being the composer of a ton of movie and TV music like the Simpson's intro song and The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. And before all that, he was famous for being the frontman of Oingo Boingo. What a life this man has lived!
It is with Oingo Boingo that I first got introduced to this amazing creator of sound. Oingo Boingo might have performed last with Danny at their Farewell show on Halloween of 1995 but their music really, really holds up. What is so interesting about their songs is the combination of the strange with the fun. Take for example this song, it is a fun song that makes you want to get up and dance. Then, you take a moment to really listen or read the lyrics and it is not fun. It reads like the story of a person living through a personal hell each and every day. But I kind of think that this is a Danny Elfman speciality, mixing the strange with the lovely.
