Jacob Banks - Hostage

Love is something we all want and need to get us through this life but love can be so complicated. Like the story that I think Jacob Banks is telling me with this song. I'm guessing that this song is about being in love with someone who has experienced a terrible relationship and cannot let go of it. And because of that past terrible relationship, they cannot move forward. Your love for them is not enough for them to let go of that past and enjoy the love that you have for them. Tragic.

Yet, I think this is something everyone who has experience a bad relationship or breakup can understand. It seems impossible to not have a bad relationship experience taint a future relationship. No matter how much we may not want to have the new person deal with the consequences of another's actions, I just don't see we could avoid this. Therapy? Lots of therapy.

Jacob Banks does an amazing job in telling this story with his beautiful voice full of feeling and pain. He did make me super mad a few years ago though. I bought my ticket to the last stop on his tour and a few days later the show was canceled, the tour would end in a different city. I will never forget the disappointment. Fingers crossed that someday, somewhere I'll get the chance to see him perform because I have a feeling that it would be magical.

This song is good for heartbreak and deep thoughts about love.

Enjoy!
